These pics were actually done on the 26th, but I guessed the wrong date when I signed my name on 'em. I have a few old sketches (like this) that were done through inspiration from inanimate objects on the table around me. It's a fun excercise for coming up with new drawing ideas, and when our art lead at work came back from Ian McCaig's art tutorial at the GDC, he reminded me of this technique. The design for the kid's costume in pic one came from a paper towel holder, and the face of the critters comes from the clip on my clipboard. I used pic two as a scratch pad when I was talking to Mike May about tutorials and the drawing he has been working on. The kid with the phone was a drawing that started with his right knee and finished with his head. In pic three, I practiced laying out a skeleton before filling in the drawing until I remembered that I wanted to practice women faces tonight, which all pic 4.

My mom is in town and staying with me tonight, but somehow I managed to come up with drawings that were as foul-mouthed as ever. Most of this stuff is standard fare. I'm still trying for quantity more than quality just so I feel comfortable drawing again, but I started seeing my old style pop out in pic 6, which made me pretty happy. Enjoy!

Tonight, I started nervous after seeing a bunch of great stuff by my drawing night buds at the eatpoo forums. While I'm on other subjects, check out Joy Ang. If I'm reading correctly, she is only 16. Her artwork is fantastic as-is, but mind-blowing for her age.
Anyway, Sam made it to our session, and we were talking about how difficult it is for us to do "technical" drawings, so I started (2) practicing them. I still feel like I'm trying to get back on my feet with drawing, but I really want to branch out, too. Backgrounds and inanimate objects are big, scary goals of mine, though I'm not sure when I'll push hard on them. I don't have any comments about any other pics but 5, which came out when I started thinking about Street Fighter. I've spent time thinking back to the day when I used to play it religiously ever since someone pointed me to shoryuken.com.
