(1998, Set 27) I draw a surprising number of (1) beans demonstrating anti-social behavior for someone as pro-bean as I am. I think the guy in the lower right of the second drawing posted here contains a good example of where my drawing was heading around this time. It's a classic Alan pic -- a shirtless, zingy haired, blade-holding man with lots of squiggly lines. The third pic is another good example, but in a more "finished" form. It was inspired by the Seven Samurai, which I purchased recently on DVD.
1. 2. 3.
(1998, Set 26) The first picture is of a pretty average doodle page, the second contains some comic book superheroes, including a bad rendition of Aqua Man (and a good one of Zauriel). The last pic is of (3) Supergirl and an "interaction" practice pic of a barbarian and a boy.

(1998, Set 25) I kinda like the first picture with the monks in it. The second picture contains (2) barbarian-types, which I've seen a lot in my recent drawings. They were inspired by a co-worker, who was curious what I would draw barbarians like, since I tend to draw medium to light built characters. The last picture in this set contains (3) more heroes -- as usual, some bad, some good.
